V&A Dundee - 'What If...?/Scotland' exhibition, The McManus Gallery and Museum and Emma Talbot at DCA
By Emily
We had fun-filled day out to the V&A Centre at Dundee and with the Edinburgh Art Festival and WHALE Arts to see the 'What If' Exhibition that we, Wester Hailes, were part of as well as another 5 areas in Scotland - Arran, Dundee, Paisley, Elgin and Lerwick. EAF and WHALE never fail to deliver! A great day out! After meeting at the Wester Hailes Train Station, we headed to Dundee. The first stop was the V&A Centre to see what was on show there. Travel tickets issued!
Very exciting to see our faces exhibited on the walls and in videos that were made more than a year ago in the 'What If...?/Scotland' exhibition which focussed on Wester Hailes and WHALE! We spent an hour or more taking in the free exhibits then we were treated to lunch, provided by EAF and WHALE. We sat on the balcony at the V&A under a hot sun to feast on sandwiches, snacks, fruit and drinks. The only things we had to put our hands in our pockets for were gifts from the shop and scrumptious cinnamon doughnuts from the van just outside of the centre. Highly recommended if you plan to visit.
Afterwards, we visited the McManus Galleries and took in a wonderful bittersweet exhibition there before heading to the Dundee Contemporary Arts centre for a break and a coffee and to see Emma Talbot's exhibition 'Ghost Calls'.
We returned home later in the evening after a packed day of exhibitions, food, drinks, conversations, photos and walks. Everyone was pleasantly tired after our wonderful walks and trips. Always a great day out and meeting new people with the Edinburgh Art Festival. Our hosts, Holly from EAF and Tiki from WHALE were wonderful. The trip was well planned and everything went as scheduled. Fabulous day out!
