Wester Hailes Education Centre Online Exhibition
Wester Hailes Education Centre's S3 year group have been working with artist Sally Price since February 2020 utilising unwanted, everyday, disused materials to create new abstract sculptures.
Considering form, texture and scale, the students worked intuitively, responding to material properties and exploring structure and space. Through the process of creating their assemblages the students explored how art is made and what art can be, as well as prompting questions about waste impact on our planet, creative resourcefulness and how humans can adapt to help. The experimental process enabled pupils to problem solve through a collaborative approach, building creative confidence and confronting the notion of temporary artwork.

Below are galleries containing images of the initial material exploration and intuitive making experiments the students did, which led up to and informed the installations above. They documented the process by photographing their work with iPads, as well as drawing in and out of sketchbooks.
